FRDEV.OVH a specialized platform providing various application programming interfaces experienced a significant data breach in 2021. The incident involved the unauthorized exposure of the platforms central database resulting in the publication of sensitive user information online. The leak affected approximately 14 thousand registered users. Technical analysis indicates that the compromised data included user email addresses and unique nicknames. Furthermore the breach exposed user passwords which were stored as SHA1 hashes with salt. While salting adds a layer of security SHA1 is considered a weak cryptographic algorithm by modern standards making the accounts vulnerable to brute force attacks.
