FreeGame 2017

In December 2019 the gaming website FreeGame2017 suffered a significant data breach that compromised the personal information of approximately 1.8 million users. The leaked data included usernames and email addresses along with passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. This incident highlights the vulnerability of older gaming platforms to credential harvesting attacks and the risks associated with outdated cryptographic hashing methods which can be cracked by motivated attackers to gain unauthorized access to accounts.
