In 2020 the Russian online electronics retailer Gadgetforyou experienced a data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 10000 customers. The incident resulted in the unauthorized access to a database containing sensitive user details. The leaked information included full names, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, and physical residential addresses. Additionally, the breach compromised user security credentials as passwords stored in Bcrypt hash format were part of the exposed dataset. This incident highlights vulnerabilities in e-commerce storage practices regarding customer PII and hashed credentials.
