In early 2017 the French gaming community GaiaServeur experienced a data breach that resulted in the exposure of its user database. The incident involved the unauthorized access to and extraction of sensitive member information from the platform which specialized in game server hosting and community forums. The breach was primarily caused by vulnerabilities within the forum software allowing attackers to download the user table containing personal identifiers and hashed credentials. This leak was later circulated within the dark web and database sharing communities.
