In early 2015 the video game community website GameTuts suffered a significant data breach resulting in the exposure of over 2 million user accounts. The incident involved an unauthorized access to the platform database where attackers managed to exfiltrate sensitive member details. The leaked information contained personal identifiers and security credentials. Investigations revealed that the passwords were stored using MD5 hashing algorithms with salt which are considered cryptographically weak by modern standards. This breach highlighted vulnerabilities in legacy forum software and community gaming portals during that era.
