About this leak
In late 2019 a significant security breach involving the GateHub cryptocurrency wallet service was identified. While the company initially acknowledged an incident in June 2019 affecting a smaller subset of users the full extent became clear in October when a database containing 1.4 million records appeared on a popular hacking forum. The compromised data included sensitive technical information such as mnemonic phrases encrypted master keys and encrypted recovery keys. Additionally the leak exposed user email addresses and passwords stored using the Bcrypt hashing algorithm. The incident highlighted vulnerabilities in how secondary security layers were managed within the platform infrastructure.
