In early 2021 the Russian information and news portal Gazeta-a.ru suffered a data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 15 thousand registered users. The incident resulted in the unauthorized disclosure of a database containing full names, electronic mail addresses, mobile phone numbers, dates of birth, and geographic locations. Additionally, user passwords stored as MD5 hashes were compromised during this security event, posing a risk of credential stuffing and further account takeovers.
