Gemini

In late 2022 a significant data breach involving Gemini cryptocurrency exchange users was identified after information appeared on a hacking forum. The incident originated from a security breach at a third-party vendor which resulted in the unauthorized access of customer contact information. The exposed dataset included 5.7 million records containing email addresses and partial phone numbers. Gemini confirmed that the leak was not a direct compromise of their internal infrastructure but stemmed from a partner organization. Although partial phone numbers were masked in the middle digits the combination of emails and partial data increased the risk of phishing campaigns targeting crypto investors.
