In February 2021 the Indian streaming platform Gemplex suffered a significant data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 4.6 million users. The compromised dataset included sensitive details such as full names, mobile phone numbers, email addresses, and physical device identifiers. Furthermore, dates of birth and account passwords stored as Bcrypt hashes were included in the leak. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in digital media services handling large scale user bases and the importance of robust hashing algorithms like Bcrypt to protect credentials even after unauthorized access occurs.
