GetContact

In early 2021 a massive database surfaced containing approximately 59 million records primarily affecting users in Russia and Ukraine. The incident involved the exposure of mobile phone numbers paired with the contact names assigned to them by other users. Security researchers linked the data structure and content to the GetContact application which functions as a caller identification and spam blocking service. The breach likely originated from an insecure interface or an unauthorized database extraction. The leak posed significant privacy risks as it allowed third parties to identify individuals and their social connections through the crowdsourced contact labels.
