GGCorp

In August 2022 the MMORPG gaming service GGCorp suffered a significant data breach. An unauthorized party managed to access the user database resulting in the exposure of approximately 2.4 million unique accounts. The compromised information included personal identifiers and security credentials specifically salted MD5 hashed passwords. This incident highlights vulnerabilities in legacy hashing algorithms and risks associated with online gaming community platforms.
