In early 2024 Canadian discount retailer Giant Tiger experienced a significant data breach affecting its customer base. The incident originated through a third party vendor that managed customer engagement data. A threat actor known as Prisene subsequently leaked the stolen data on a popular hacking forum. The exposed database includes personal details of millions of customers who participated in various marketing programs. The breach did not involve payment card information or passwords but provided sufficient personal data for targeted phishing attacks and identity theft attempts.
