Gravatar scrape 2023

In January 2023 a significant data scraping incident affected the Gravatar service which is widely used for hosting globally recognized avatars. The event involved the mass harvesting of data from public profiles by exploiting an unsecured API. This resulted in the collection of personal information belonging to approximately 61 million users. The scraped data included primary identifiers such as email addresses and usernames which were subsequently circulated in the cybersecurity community and on various hacking forums.
