In February 2012 the Indonesian forum known as the Hacker Newbie Community experienced a significant security breach. An unauthorized party managed to gain access to the database of what was then considered a large hub for novice cybersecurity enthusiasts. The compromise resulted in the exposure of sensitive user data including personal identifiers and technical metadata. Security researchers noted that passwords were stored using MyBB hashes which are susceptible to cracking. This incident highlighted the vulnerability of niche community forums to targeted attacks during that era.
