In December 2019 the Italian software distribution platform HackVita experienced a significant data exposure incident. The breach resulted in the unauthorized publication of a database containing information for over 27 thousand registered users. Compromised data elements included user email addresses and nicknames along with passwords stored as SHA256 hashes. This incident posed a risk to users who reused the same credentials across other digital services. The leak appeared on various underground forums and public data sharing platforms shortly after the compromise occurred.
