HKGolden

In August 2019 the prominent Hong Kong based computer and software forum HKGolden suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 297000 user records. The compromised data included sensitive information such as plain text passwords, email addresses, and phone numbers. The nature of the breach suggests a direct compromise of the forum database allowing attackers to extract user profiles and authentication details in an unencrypted format which significantly increases the risk of account takeover and identity theft for the affected community members.
