In May 2020 the gaming platform HopZone experienced a data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 200000 registered users. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of the community database. The leaked data contained sensitive credentials including email addresses and usernames along with passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. This method of password storage is considered weak by modern security standards making the accounts vulnerable to credential stuffing and brute force attacks.
