In December 2018 the Indian recruitment platform IIMJobs experienced a significant data breach exposing information of approximately 4.1 million users. The incident involved an unauthorized access to the database which contained sensitive personal and professional details. The leaked data included email addresses, full names, phone numbers, dates of birth, and geographic locations. Additionally, professional information such as job positions, employment applications, and cover letters was compromised. Security analysis revealed that user passwords were stored as MD5 hashes without salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking and exploitation by malicious actors.
