About this leak
In 2019 the public records search service Instant Checkmate suffered a significant data breach that exposed personal information of approximately 12 million customers. The incident came to light in early 2023 when the data was discovered on a popular hacking forum. The breach included sensitive customer data such as names and contact details alongside passwords protected with the Scrypt hashing algorithm. This leak occurred alongside a similar breach of its sister site TruthFinder as both companies share a common parent organization.
