About this leak
In July 2016 the virtual world gaming platform Kaneva suffered a significant data breach affecting approximately 3.9 million players. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of a database containing sensitive user information. Compromised data included usernames, email addresses, dates of birth, and passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. The hashing method used was a complex combination of string transformations and salting but remained vulnerable to modern cracking techniques. Following the breach and subsequent security concerns the service was eventually shut down in 2017 and the domain was redirected to the game publisher website.
