In January 2023 the Moldovan online cinema Kinotir experienced a security breach that compromised its user database. An unauthorized actor successfully bypassed security measures to extract sensitive information from the platform servers. The incident led to the public disclosure of personal details belonging to approximately 8000 registered users. The leaked data included full names email addresses and phone numbers. Additionally technical data such as IP addresses and passwords stored using the outdated and vulnerable MD5 hashing algorithm were exposed making them susceptible to cracking attempts.
