In July 2022 the French mobile virtual network operator La Poste Mobile suffered a major ransomware attack claimed by the LockBit gang. The cybercriminals successfully encrypted company servers and exfiltrated sensitive customer data after gaining unauthorized access to the internal network. When the company refused to pay the ransom demand the attackers published the stolen information on their leak site. The impact was severe causing the service website and customer account management systems to remain offline for over ten days following the incident. The breach exposed personal subscriber details and sensitive financial data for over half a million customers.
