About this leak

In June 2020 the online learning platform Learnable which was owned by SitePoint suffered a significant security breach. The incident led to the exposure of personal data belonging to approximately one million users. The compromised information originated from a database backup and included sensitive details such as email addresses and bcrypt hashed passwords. Security researchers identified that the breach was part of a larger set of data being traded on dark web forums and through automated Telegram channels. The underlying cause was attributed to an insecurely configured backup or database service that allowed unauthorized access by malicious actors.
