In 2022 the database of Letovo School a private educational institution for gifted children in Russia was compromised and leaked online. The incident involved an unauthorized access to the school internal systems resulting in the exposure of sensitive data belonging to students and their parents. The leak contains approximately 220 thousand records including personal contact details and hashed credentials. Security analysts noted that passwords were stored using MD5 with salt or MD5CRYPT algorithms which are considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to brute force attacks.
