About this leak
In July 2019 the messaging service LetsChat experienced a significant data breach when an unprotected MongoDB database was exposed to the public internet. The exposed server contained sensitive user information including private messages and account details. Security researchers discovered the open database which lacked any password protection allowing anyone with the IP address to access and download the entire dataset. This incident highlighted common security pitfalls related to misconfigured cloud storage and database instances.
