About this leak
In early 2019 the popular Japanese schedule and calendar application Lifebear suffered a significant data breach. The incident involved the unauthorized access and subsequent sale of a database on darknet marketplaces. The compromised data included approximately 3.7 million unique user records. Technical analysis revealed that the hackers obtained sensitive credentials including email addresses and usernames. Alarmingly the passwords were stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm which is highly susceptible to cracking and brute force attacks. This breach exposed a large portion of the Japanese mobile user base to potential phishing and account takeover risks.
