About this leak
In early 2016 the Lifeboat Minecraft server community suffered a massive data breach affecting millions of users. The incident involved the unauthorized access to a database containing sensitive member information. Despite discovering the breach in January the company intentionally withheld the information from its community for several months. The data was compromised due to weak security practices specifically the storage of passwords using the MD5 hashing algorithm without any salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking. This lack of transparency and technical failure exposed millions of young gamers to credential stuffing and identity theft risks.
