In May 2018 the Linux Forums community website suffered a significant data breach. The incident led to the exposure of approximately 276000 unique records. The compromised data included sensitive user information such as email addresses and usernames alongside technical details like IP addresses. Most notably passwords stored as MD5 hashes with salts were leaked which poses a security risk to users who reuse the same credentials across different platforms. The breach was eventually shared in public forums and added to major leak repositories.
