About this leak
In mid 2019 reports emerged regarding a massive data breach affecting the social networking service LiveJournal. Although the archive surfaced on hacker forums in May 2020 the actual compromise is believed to have occurred in 2017. The leaked database contains records for approximately 26 million unique accounts. The exposed information includes user email addresses and plaintext passwords. This incident is significant due to the lack of encryption for stored passwords which poses a severe risk of credential stuffing attacks across other platforms where users might have reused their login details.
