In November 2015 the support forum of MajorGeeks a popular software download site suffered a significant security breach. The incident led to the exposure of approximately 270000 user accounts. The compromised data included sensitive information such as email addresses usernames salted password hashes and IP addresses. These records were later found being traded and sold within the underground hacking community. The breach highlighted vulnerabilities in legacy forum software and the risks associated with storing user credentials without modern encryption standards.
