Mappery

In December 2018 the cartographic community website Mappery suffered a significant data breach. The incident led to the exposure of sensitive user information including names and geographical locations. Security researchers found that the leaked database contained passwords stored as unsalted SHA-1 hashes which are highly vulnerable to cracking. Despite the scale of the exposure involving over two hundred thousand accounts the company did not provide an official response or clarification regarding the root cause of the security failure.
