Mate1

In February 2016 the dating platform Mate1 suffered a massive security breach affecting approximately 27 million users. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of a database containing highly sensitive personal information. Data exposed included email addresses and usernames along with plaintext passwords. More concerning was the exposure of private profile details such as drug and alcohol habits, relationship preferences, and income levels. The lack of cryptographic hashing for passwords significantly increased the risk for affected subscribers as their credentials could be used immediately for account takeover across other platforms.
