In August 2020 a significant data exposure occurred at Meetup when a security researcher discovered an open database containing user information. The incident involved the exposure of member data including names and email addresses. Additionally a separate security vulnerability was reported where administrative access could be gained through cross site scripting. The leak highlighted risks associated with third party API integrations and misconfigured cloud storage settings for the social networking platform.
