In March 2022 the Latin American e-commerce giant Mercado Libre confirmed that a portion of its source code was accessed without authorization. The incident affected approximately 300 thousand users out of its total user base. While the company stated that no sensitive information such as passwords or financial data was compromised the breach raised significant concerns regarding the security of the marketplace platform in the Uruguay region and other Latin American countries. The threat actors gained access through an internal server vulnerability allowing them to download repository data.
