In November 2021 the Forummikrotik communication platform experienced a significant data breach affecting its community of network technology specialists. An unauthorized party managed to access the forum database resulting in the exposure of sensitive information for approximately 62 thousand registered accounts. The compromised data included user nicknames, email addresses, and IP addresses used during registration or posting. Crucially, the breach also exposed user passwords stored as MD5 hashes with salt, which are considered cryptographically weak by modern standards and susceptible to cracking. This incident posed a risk of credential stuffing attacks across other networking and administrative services used by the affected professionals.
