In October 2019 the Russian online retailer Mimisi specializing in professional hair cosmetics and hairdressing tools suffered a cyber attack. The breach resulted in the unauthorized access and extraction of sensitive customer information including personal details and order history. The incident affected approximately 18000 users and exposed 64000 separate order records. Security researchers identified that passwords were stored using the MD5 hashing algorithm with a salt which is considered weak by modern standards. The leaked data package also included technical identifiers and transaction details.
