In January 2016 the Minecraft custom map sharing website MinecraftWorldMap.com suffered a significant data breach. The incident led to the exposure of sensitive user account information. Security researchers discovered that the database was compromised due to vulnerabilities in the web application which allowed unauthorized access to the backend storage. The leaked data included personal identifiers and account credentials which were later circulated in the hacker community and added to major breach notification services like Have I Been Pwned.
