In May 2020 the online design marketplace Minted suffered a significant data breach when a malicious actor gained unauthorized access to its user database. The incident resulted in the compromise of information belonging to approximately 4.4 million customers. The stolen data was later put up for sale on darknet marketplaces by the ShinyHunters hacking group. The breach included sensitive personal details and hashed credentials using the bcrypt algorithm which provides a high level of protection but still necessitates a password reset for all affected users.
