In December 2015 the news and gaming portal Mipped.com suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of sensitive information belonging to approximately 30000 registered users. The leaked data included email addresses, usernames, real names, geographic regions, and IP addresses. Additionally, user profile descriptions and passwords stored as MD5 hashes were compromised. The breach allowed unauthorized parties to access the database and distribute the contents across various dark web forums and public platforms. MD5 hashing is considered weak by modern standards making the passwords vulnerable to cracking efforts.
