In late 2022 a data breach involving the British charity Missing People occurred when an unsecured database was discovered online. The exposed information contained sensitive details about individuals reported missing as well as data pertaining to those who reported them. The incident was primarily caused by a misconfigured server that allowed public access without authentication. Security researchers identified the exposure which included internal records and personal identifiers of vulnerable people across the United Kingdom.
