About this leak
In January 2020 the Spanish dating application Mobifriends suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 3.7 million records including sensitive user information. The breach occurred due to vulnerabilities that allowed unauthorized access to the database. Leaked data points included email addresses, usernames, dates of birth, genders, and MD5 hashed passwords. Security researchers identified the exposure which significantly impacted users in Spain and Latin America due to the apps popularity in those regions. The use of weak MD5 hashing algorithms for passwords posed a high risk for credential stuffing attacks.
