MoDaCo

In January 2016 the popular British Android enthusiast community MoDaCo suffered a significant data breach. The incident led to the exposure of sensitive information belonging to approximately 880000 registered forum members. The breach occurred due to vulnerabilities in the forum software allowing unauthorized access to the underlying database. Leaked details included subscriber email addresses, IP addresses, usernames and passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. This incident highlighted the risks associated with older hashing algorithms and the importance of maintaining secure community platforms.
