In March 2016 the MSPAForums web comic community suffered a significant data breach. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of the forum database. The exposed information included registered usernames, email addresses, IP addresses, and salted hashes of passwords. The breach was attributed to vulnerabilities within the vBulletin forum software which allowed attackers to compromise the system and impact approximately 180 thousand users. This leak highlights the risks associated with legacy forum software and the importance of strong hashing algorithms to protect user credentials.
