In September 2023 a major data breach involving MTS Bank was reported after a threat actor group claimed to have compromised information on millions of customers. The incident involved the exposure of several database versions containing sensitive financial and personal details. The leaked data sets included full names, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, and individual tax identification numbers. Additionally, the breach contained partial bank card numbers and SHA1 hashes of full card numbers which potentially allow for the reconstruction of complete card details through brute force methods. While the number of unique records was estimated at 21 million, the total count of entries exceeded 70 million due to multiple phone numbers associated with single users.
