Muzhiwan is a Chinese online application marketplace for Android devices. On September 5 2023 a significant security incident resulted in the exposure of user data. The breach impacted approximately 4.3 million accounts. The compromised information originated from a database leak that exposed sensitive user credentials. Security researchers identified that the leaked data contained email addresses and usernames along with passwords protected by MD5 hashing with salt which is considered a weak cryptographic practice by modern standards. This incident poses a risk of credential stuffing attacks for users who reuse passwords across multiple platforms.
