About this leak

In October 2017 the genealogy and DNA testing platform MyHeritage suffered a massive data breach involving the exposure of approximately 92 million user accounts. The incident was discovered in June 2018 when a security researcher found a file named myheritage on a private server outside the company. The compromised data included email addresses and hashed passwords. MyHeritage stated that passwords were hashed using a one way salted hash mechanism specific to each user. Other sensitive information such as family trees and DNA data were stored on separate systems and were not impacted by this specific breach.
