In 2016 the Russian legal educational platform NaukaPrava experienced a data breach that exposed the personal information of its registered users. The incident resulted in the unauthorized access and subsequent distribution of a database containing approximately 4300 records. The compromised data includes sensitive details such as full names, user nicknames, email addresses, and passwords stored as MD5 hashes. This leak poses a risk to users who reuse passwords across multiple platforms as the MD5 algorithm is considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking.
