About this leak
In July 2018 the Belgian social networking site Netlog revealed that a massive security breach had occurred several years prior in November 2012. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 49 million user accounts. The compromised data included email addresses and passwords that were stored using an outdated MD5 hashing algorithm without salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking. Although the company discovered the breach in 2018 the actual compromise happened during the peak of the platforms popularity before it merged into the Twoo social network.
