NewseaSIMS 2016

In June 2016 the NewseaSIMS avatar and gaming community platform experienced a security breach that compromised the personal information of approximately 109000 users. The incident involved an unauthorized access to the website database which exposed sensitive member details. The leaked data contained a variety of personal identifiers and security credentials including member names and geographic locations. Of particular concern was the exposure of passwords which were stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm making them highly susceptible to cracking and subsequent account takeover attacks.
