NewseaSIMS 2018

In August 2018 the digital platform NewseaSIMS experienced a significant data breach affecting approximately 197 thousand accounts. The incident resulted in the unauthorized exposure of sensitive user credentials including names and email addresses. Security researchers noted that passwords were stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm which is highly susceptible to cracking. This event followed a previous security compromise in 2016 suggesting ongoing vulnerabilities within the systems infrastructure.
